Girl – Opening Night Celebration

Join us for a post-show reception immediately following the performance on opening night.

Presented by Joe Goode Performance Group, Girl is an evening-length collaboration between contemporary choreographer Monique Jenkinson (in the guise of her drag queen persona Fauxnique) and electronic composer Marc Kate. Speaking to the feminine in everyone, Girl asks: “Who is the girl in you?, What could you tell her?” The work draws on the “final girl” heroine in horror, and her will to survive amidst misogyny, rage, and violence through to redemption. Dance for Parkinson’s Class

As an affiliate program of Dance for PD, Joe Goode Performance Group teaches a Dance for Parkinson’s class at the Joe Goode Annex. Our classes are based on the innovative Dance for PD program designed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. Using this method, professional dancers draw on their unique expertise to help people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers engage sight, sound, touch, thought, and imagination to bring control to their movements. Dancing in chairs, at a barre, or standing, experienced teaching artists will lead participants in an enjoyable blend of modern dance, ballet, tap, jazz, and social dancing. While strengthening, balancing, and moving in rhythm to live music, people with PD also experience the power of dance and music to sharpen attention, inspire, and empower.

Weekend Workshop: Start Simple

A day-long workshop taught by Joe Goode and JGPG Company Members Patricia West & Damara Ganley.

In this short immersive workshop we will explore ways to access your creativity by tapping into your personal narrative, using both the mind and body. We will cover gentle and basic movement, journaling, and partnering exercises to bring you in touch with your body and voice. You will come away from the day with tools that bring clarity to your creative practice and your daily life. This is a great opportunity to hit the reset button on your creative practice as we move into the New Year.

Absolutely no dance or performance background is required; just bring your curiosity.

The day will include:

  • Gentle and basic movement exercises
  • Facilitated journaling sessions
  • Collaborative partner work focusing on empathy and compassion
  • Vocal exercises exploring voice and presence in space

Sea Change

The young performers in Sea Change engage deeply with life’s questions surrounding love, loss and the profound endurance of joy. Sea Change is the inaugural full-length dance theater work directed by JGPG company members and teaching artists of JGPGs Inspired Bodies Youth Education Program.
