The Merde Project is an artist commissioning project created and supported by Kristin Damrow & Company and Yikes! Oakland. In its inaugural year, Merde Project brings together four unique contemporary choreographers to present never before seen dance works around the theme of “taking risks.”
Sharp & Fine is intrigued by what happens when a large part of the emotional weight of a piece is built around an audience member (or members) speaking or moving, and the vulnerability and surprise that might emerge. Julie Crothers’ piece will be entirely informed by who is in the room, and with an eclectic cast sourced entirely from Craigslist. Fullstop Dance will attempt to construct the world of USPS’s Dead Letter Office, to capture all of its history, mystery, and loose ends. Macio Payomo will create movement using styles that are typically considered fringe art forms and showing their inherent beauty.
