Cid Pearlman Performance: The All Joan Show

Veteran choreographer Cid Pearlman celebrates her longstanding collaboration with Joan Jeanrenaud in an evening of three works: ‘Strange Toys,’ ‘small variations’ and ‘Your Body is Not a Shark.’ The earliest piece on the program, ‘Strange Toys,’ a 10-minute duet for two women, had its New York premiere at the Joyce Soho in 2004. Nominated for two Los Angeles Horton Awards, ‘small variations’ premiered as a 30-minute sextet in 2006. Finally, ‘Your Body is Not a Shark,’ an evening-length work, premiered at ODC Theater in San Francisco in 2013. Four sections of the nine-part whole will be presented on this program. Aura Fischbeck Dance presents DUSK

Aura Fischbeck Dance presents the premiere of DUSK, a dance for the time when the light is fading. This evening length work will mark the companys 10th year anniversary of making original performance work in the San Francisco bay area. Created for 4 performers DUSK considers the reality of the body as it exists in relative states of obscurity and visibility, ambiguity and transformation. To enhance this effect the Joe Goode Annex will be transformed by removing the risers and exposing the floor to ceiling windows to let the light in, and the west facing windows will become the backdrop for the dance. The dance, sound and real time quality of changing and ultimately fading light of each day will coexist as an experience of transformation from dusk to dark. With performances by Arletta Anderson, Aura Fischbeck, Phoenicia Pettyjohn and Karla Quintero, and featuring an original composition by Alex Lough, DUSK comes together at the intersection of dance, new music/technology and nature. DUSK reveals the layered spectrum of corporeality which make up the individual bodies of the performers as they traverse and inhabit worlds, both real and imagined, throughout the duration of the performance. Dance for Parkinson’s Class

As an affiliate program of Dance for PD, Joe Goode Performance Group teaches a Dance for Parkinson’s class at the Joe Goode Annex. Our classes are based on the innovative Dance for PD program designed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. Using this method, professional dancers draw on their unique expertise to help people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers engage sight, sound, touch, thought, and imagination to bring control to their movements. Dancing in chairs, at a barre, or standing, experienced teaching artists will lead participants in an enjoyable blend of modern dance, ballet, tap, jazz, and social dancing. While strengthening, balancing, and moving in rhythm to live music, people with PD also experience the power of dance and music to sharpen attention, inspire, and empower.
