We are thrilled to present the company’s next major work at our home, the Joe Goode Annex, where we will be transforming the space into a walk-through immersive performance installation where each audience member has a unique, intimate experience.
Poetics of Space isderived from the book “The Poetics of Space” by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard that studies the psychological dimensions of space, particularly domestic space. The work will explore a series of intimate spaces within the installation – the Nest, the Corner, the Drawer – and allow the viewer a cinematic “close-up” experience of each space. Imagine moving through a performance where you can create your own adventure; where your decision of where to turn, to step, to look, and to listen will determine how the performance unfolds around you.
“I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.”– Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
See initial design sketches of the installation in the video below.
Poetics of Space is a co-production with Z Space, and made possible with lead support from Frances Hellman & Warren Breslau, Fred M. Levin and Nancy Livingston, John Sander and Patti White, and the individual production sponsors who have contributed to The Poetics Fund.
