When We Fall Apartdebuted at Z Space in San Francisco in June 2012. In collaboration with architect Cass Calder Smith, Joe Goode investigates the “myth” of stability and how it constantly eludes us. Life (and the body that contains it) is impermanent and at a certain point the house collapses and gives way. Goode solicited personal stories, feelings, and insights on a series of questions about life’s directions, choices and dreams from his audience and the public. These stories are interwoven into the text and songs of When We Fall Apart. Smith created an original set design, constructed to illuminate the songs, stories, and movement that take place within. Ben Juodvalkis composed the music and performed live at the premiere.
