Venue Manager Job Description
Part-time (20-25 hrs/week), Hourly
Founded in 1986, Joe Goode Performance Group (JGPG) is an award-winning, nationally recognized dance theater company known for the innovative collision of text, song, and deeply physical, high velocity dancing. Led by artistic director/choreographer Joe Goode, the company has performed for over 30 years annually in the San Francisco Bay Area and has toured extensively throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa.
JGPG operates out of the Joe Goode Annex, the Company’s own studio and office space located at Project Artaud in San Francisco’s Mission District. The Joe Goode Annex serves as the rehearsal space for the company, as well as a performance space for the companys own smaller scale works, and a community resource to rent for rehearsals, classes, performances, and special events.
In its seven years of operation the Joe Goode Annex has developed a strong community presence. Over the last year the venue has served as the home for performances by 18 different performing artists, both emerging and established, and hosting two major dance theater festivals, for a total 58 performances.
JGPG is committed to exploring new intersections of dance and theater that can be shared with a broader audience, including our Resilience Project, a performance residency program designed for combat veterans, and The Feedback, our choreography mentorship program. Our regular classes and workshops using Joe Goodes methodologies are designed for people of all ages and backgrounds, including youth and people with Parkinsons.
The JGPG Venue Manager will be responsible for managing the Joe Goode Annex Rentals Program, as well as ensuring the smooth and efficient operation and maintenance of the Joe Goode Annex, one of the most sought-after dance spaces in San Francisco.
The position requires a highly motivated self-starter who has a strong interest in supporting the growth of arts and culture and also enjoys working as an integral part of a small team. This position is highly collaborative, working closely with the Executive Director and collaborating often with staff and local artists.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, fielding all rental inquires, maintaining the Joe Goode Annex calendar, managing the technical advance with artists and organizations renting or being presented by JGPG at the Annex, maintaining theater equipment and Annex space infrastructure, and hiring and managing a small team of theater technicians and front of house staff.
